Shane and I had planned on fishing this weekend and with the completion of his new custom rod, we knew we had to hit the beach, despite the arrival of Sargassum. We hit the beach early Saturday morning and followed the weed south. Found our spot for the day and started catching bait. The whiting were plentiful and with the addition of a nice Stingray, we were set to run baits. Shane and I put a bait a piece out and waited for the action to start. After a couple of good runs and missed hook sets, Shane finds himself hooked up.

After an aerobatic display, Shane lands this fat 6'1" Blacktip.

Shane re-deploy's his new "UT 2005 National Champs" rod and waits for his next run. After a couple more missed runs, I finally hook up on a good fish. This fish was very powerful, especially since I was fighting it on my Daiwa SHV 50. After a 30 minute battle I finally land this huge 7'0" female Sandbar.

She had the largest girth of any Sandbar I have ever encountered. After tagging and releasing her Shane hooks up again on another nice shark. Shane whoops her pretty quickly and we have a 5'5" female Blacktip on the beach.

After a couple quick pics and a tag we send her back. Shortly thereafter Shanes 6/0 Wide takes off on a huge run, he gets harnessed in and a succession of screaming fast runs ensues. This fish was so fast, within a few minutes this fish had stripped 500 yards of 100# powerpro, we were on the way to possibly getting spooled. After fighting this fish to textbook, the shark spit it. This was one of those fish that you don't want to lose. My guess would that it had to be a huge Sandbar or Hammer. We picked ourselves back up and dropped some more baits. A few minutes later and Shane and I are both hooked up at the same time. Shane's hook ends up pulling while I land a nice 6'2" male Sandbar.

We had a couple more runs and as night rolled in, so did the weed. We let some monster baits sit till 9:00 then called it a night. Great trip and I hope the weed clears soon. Congrats Shane on two nice Tippers and thanks again Oz for making Shane such a great rod.
