With the seas looking
like they were
calming down, we
decided to head
down early Friday
morning. The wind
was forecasted for
7 miles an
hour in the
morning, felt more
like 15. With
a considerable chop,
we began our
way down south.
Before too long
we spot some
birds and I
see the unmistakble
slash of feeding
Jack Crevelle. First
cast I am
hooked up on
a nice Jack.
While I am
fighting my Jack
on a trout
rod, Cole hooks
up and and
lands a nice
one. After a
10 minute fight,
the hook straightens
and the jack
is gone. As
I was chasing
the school down
down the bar,
I stepped on
a stingray. Luckily
I stepped on
his tail and
missed the barb
but found the
spikes on the
top of the
tail, leaving me
with a nice
slash across the
width of my
foot. After chasing
the school a
couple more miles,
we decided to
head south. After
finding a less
weeded out spot,
we set up
camp. Some mullet
were schooled up
in a nearby
hole, so we
began picking off
the Redfish and
Jacks.
Shane and
I began running
baits in hopes
of picking up
a shark despite
the terrible weed
situation. After 4
runs and dropped
baits, we were
starting to get
a little worried.
Finally I get
hooked up on
a nice fish,
20 minutes later
I land a
nice 5'9"
female bull.

I take
a new bait
out and within
15 minutes my
Daiwa Shv takes
off again. Hooked
up on a
nice fish.

After a
very heavy battle
I land this
6"7 female
bull shark.

As the
weed begins to
really put the
hurt on us,
Shane hooks up
on a very
determined fish. This
fish took us
almost a mile
down the beach
and made some
very impressive runs.
After a good
twenty five minute
fight, he lands
this very powerful
6'2" female
Black Tip.

We tag
and release Shane's tipper and
decide to call
it a day.
As we approach
the ranger station
we notice huge
plumes of smoke
and a very
expansive fire. The
park was closed
as a result
of the fire.

We made
the best of
the conditions availabe
and had a
great time. Totals
for the day
were 4 redfish,
2 Jack Crevelle,
2 Bull Sharks
and a very
nice Black Tip.
As always it
was great to
fish with the
brothers Casady, Cole
and Shane.
